We sent our young men to Vietnam,
But we donít treat them like heroes of Guam.
But heroes are heroes in every war.
Some hurt, some bleed, some wonít cry no more.
Most wonder what the fighting is for.
But still, they fought for you and the red, white and blue.

We fought a war no one would win.
It divided our people as theyíve never been.
The hawks flapped their wings and sharpened their claws.
The doves protested and broke some laws
While our men died from bullets and straws.
But still, they fought for you and the red, white and blue.

There were no parades when they came home.
No monuments made of bronze and stone.
Fifty-five thousand were missing or dead.
Threehundred thousand the wounded list read,
But most of us just turned our head
On those, who fought for you and the red, white and blue.

We sent our young men to Vietnam,
But we donít treat them like heroes of Guam.
We fought a war no one would win.
It divided our people as theyíve never been.
There were no parades when they came home.
No monuments made of bronze and stone.
We sent our young men to Vietnam,
But we donít treat them like heroes of Guam.
